The brief for this piece was to make a garment, based on Indian designs to be worn by a European woman to a Diwali party. It could be a skirt, top or shawl or anything that would coordinate with plain black.

The rest of the outfit would be purchased to go with the garment produced.

I looked at many different kinds of Indian garments, dhoti, dupatta, and the different styles of top, choli tops, kanjari and kurta and was particularly inspired by the tops constructed from recycled fabrics.

Suggested motifs included the lotus flower, the sacred peacock and even some of the geometric Muslim designs.
