Workshops
I have run a couple of children's workshops in conjuction with this exhibition, these can be altered to accomodate ages and abilities as required.
Wantage Betjeman Literary Festival - Madhatter's Art Workshop
The Madhatter's Art Workshop was held in the Vale and Downland Museum as a 2 hour workshop for children aged 6-11 accompanied by their parents.
We completed two projects, the first to construct a fanfold book, and illustrate it with images of the teaparty. For the younger children, there were cakes, hats, teapots and cups to cut out and paint. The older ones chose to draw their own images, illustrating riddles, time, the Madhatter, March Hare and the Doremouse. The second project was to decorate a teapot fit for a Madhatter's teaparty.
Alice Iphone
This workshop was held over two 3 hour periods at Uffington Primary School. The children were reading Alice in Wonderland as one of their projects and each chose a character to illustrate by means of a simple icon. We drew the ideas on paper first and then transfered them onto fabric which we painted with fabric paint. During the second workshop we cut out the icons, stitched them onto coloured felt backgrounds and decorated them with buttons, ribbons, beads and sequins.
Each of the icons was then stitched onto the background and the details added to produce the giant iphone.
