Research for Design

The concept of a divine intermediary, defined artistically as a winged messenger is a symbol that goes far back in history.

The earliest images are found in the Old Testament and the Apocrypha, however there is little early artwork. In what there is, angels are depicted as described in the text of Ezekiel:

"They had the form of men, but each had 4 faces, and each of them had 4 wings. Their legs were straight, and the soles of their feet were like the soles of a calves foot and they sparkled like burnished bronze."

With a challenge like that, it is hardly surprising that artists developed a more humanistic image.
