My main problem was how to transfer the various letters etc. to fabric. I experimented with various background fabrics and transfer methods, such as stitchless glue; lavender oil, bubblejet set, and computer transfer papers.

This resulted in the final idea of enlarging small pieces of each of the items and transferring them onto silk organza before stitching over the now quite faint images by hand and distressing the edges.

The final hanging, which measures 95cms * 182cms is designed to stand in front of a glass door. It is made up of two layers of organza; the top one is machine stitched with bible quotations of angelic messages and has dried hydrangea petals bonded to it.

The fragments of letters, poems, envelopes and stamps are then hand stitched in place. The back layer, which adds depth, is left unstitched with bonded petals. Both these pieces are then stitched over the top of a metal frame.
