Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis, or porous bone, is a disease characterized by low bone mass and structural deterioration of bone tissue, leading to bone fragility and an increased susceptibility to fractures of the hip, spine, and wrist.

Men as well as women suffer from osteoporosis, a disease that can be prevented and treated.

The background for this design is made up of yellow and orange scrim with the "holes" in the bone represented by embroidered and beaded purple cotton.

The yellow half shown below left, represents fragile bone with lots of deteriation.

The orange half shown below right, represents healthy bone. With a curved backbone dividing the two halves shown in various stages.

The second panel representing oseoperosis was made by stitching with heavy thread on delicate scrim the scrim was then cut away to represent the bone mass

Two layers were stitched to give the impression of dimension with a dark red organza background behind. The scrim was then strengthened with dilute pva.
